BLACK MANDALA is a production and international sales company established in 2017 in Auckland, New Zealand by Michael Kraetzer and Nicolas Onetti. Michael has been active in the film industry since 1993, founding several distribution companies across Germany, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. His production career began in 2007, highlighted by cult films like INBRED (2011) and NIGHTMARE RADIO (2019), the latter earning accolades such as “Anthology of the Year” and a spot in the “Top 10 Films of 2019”. He has produced films in New Zealand, the UK, Germany, France, and the USA.

Nicolas has been a successful producer in Argentina since 2013, establishing himself as a leading figure in Latin American Cinema. Together, Michael and Nicolas debuted as filmmakers with WHAT THE WATERS LEFT BEHIND in 2017, setting new standards for Latin American genre cinema. The film premiered at Cannes’ Marché du Film and garnered multiple awards at prestigious genre festivals including SITGES, MORBIDO, and OBSCURA.

The iconic image of Dracula was invented in Derby. His cloak, evening dress, and even his charming manner derive from Hamilton Deane’s 1924 stage adaptation, the premiere of which took place at Derby Grand Theatre.

Dracula Returns to Derby restores the city’s place in the story of the world’s most famous vampire by highlighting the city’s connections to Bram Stoker, Hamilton Deane and Bela Lugosi.

The year-long project concludes with our May 2025 ‘Dracula Returns’ conference, taking place at the Museum of Making and QUAD, with plans to establish regular Dracula activities within the city with a charitable group.
